Guinea pigs require an unlimited amount of hay as the main staple of their diet, providing them with fiber, protein, and a proper calcium to phosphorus ratio. Hay also plays a crucial role in maintaining good dental health.
Timothy Hay is widely available and provides the optimal balance of nutrition for guinea pigs' diets. The high fiber content found in Timothy hay helps maintain normal digestive health.
Orchard hay is an excellent alternative for piggy parents with grass allergies that might be irritated by Timothy hay.
Orchard hay tends to be softer, sweeter, and has an aromatic fragrance which will entice even the pickiest of eaters.
The nutritional value of Orchard hay doesn't fall much behind that of Timothy hay, boasting high fiber content, a good Ca:Ph ratio, and only slightly less protein.

For a happy and healthy guinea pig, hay is required at all times! Say goodbye to having to constantly refill your guinea pig’s hay.
Advanced Microfiltration
With unfiltered hay comes the dangers of fine dust, tree branches, bird feathers and other impurities. Our elite and thorough filtration system makes sure to help you keep your guinea pigs not only happy and healthy, but safe.
Safer for the Environment!
We’ve created thoughtful packaging that is less dependent on plastic and safer for your piggies and the world around them!
Convenient Packaging
GuineaDad's Hay Bar (5 pack) is more loosely packed and has softer, easier-to-dispose-of packaging, and conveniently attaches to guinea pigs' cages.
GuineaDad's Hay Box (3 pack) has more tightly packed hay and is more rigid, making it easy to stand up on its own and easy to store.
Timothy hay is the most popular choice among guinea parents! It not only smells and tastes yummy, but it has the perfect balance of fiber, fat, and protein.
Orchard hay for guinea pigs
Orchard hay is a great substitute for piggy parents suffering from allergies. It consists of soft, but broader and sweeter leaves, and is slightly higher in calories and protein than Timothy hay.

My piggie Rex took right to this hay and dug right in the hole and ate more than I have seen her ever eat. Also, being we got 3 boxes this will last her a long time so in the long run it really isn’t that more expensive cause I don’t have to throw a lot out anymore.
Store owner replied:
Thanks so much, Jamie! We’re so happy to hear your herd is loving the hay and that it’s been gentler on your allergies too. That’s a big win for everyone! 💚🐹
These boxes are a life saver. They contain the mess and hassle of storing hay in the house. Unlike most sources, I always know the hay will be good quality each time. And you're not just paying for the hay but the enrichment. These guys love chewing on the cardboard, making little hides in the box or tunneling into them. Worth the price by far.
Tastes so good, she even crawls in and eats her way to the bottom! These are easy to use and attach to the cage! Gives us several weeks of hay, and a lot less mess than putting hay in daily! We love them and so does our piggie girl!
Store owner replied:

Hi Kristin! 🌼
We’re so happy to hear that your guinea pigs love the GuineaDad Orchard Hay Boxes! 🐹💚 Thank you for sharing their excitement with us!
I’ve done a few reviews on the orchard hay boxes. Here I am again. As a piggy momma for nearly 10 years I couldn’t be more happy with the quality. Not to mention less mess. Since the piggies love laying and foraging I pull some out for them and done. Spot cleaning at night has become more simple and less weight. The following photos are FiFi multi colored and KoKo gray. I’ve been buying these adorable piggy condos for a few years now. As you can see they absolutely love them. Keeps their teeth trim. And keeps them occupied. One Happy Piggy Mom.

Thank you, Michelle! 🌟 We're happy to hear that the Orchard Hay Boxes have made life easier for you and so enjoyable for FiFi and KoKo. Your dedication as a piggy momma really shines through! 🐹💕
Both of my pigs love this hay! The box keeps hay contained and pigs can use their foraging instincts to pull the hay from the holes in the cardboard. The hay is also densely packed, so while this product is a bit pricey, I find it worth it and will order again.
I have tried every brand out there. And none can hold a candle to Guinea Dad Orchard Hay. Absolutely perfect. Beautiful green no dead brown pieces at all. No stems nothing. I have been having an extremely hard time finding good quality hay. All of our piggies absolutely love it. I already have a back up order that just arrived today. Thank you for such an amazing product. And Ms Koko loves her crunchy condo.

There waiting for vegetables right now but they clear the whole box out throughout a couple of days trust me. I buy other hay separate that I use to fill these boxes a few times before replacing it. I wouldn't be able to afford otherwise but the price isn't bad compared to others. The main reason I buy are these boxes tho. They fit my cage perfect and prevent my lid from sinking in.
We can't go back! We've been using these hay boxes for over a year. The amount of dust in our house has reduced significantly! Goodbye to all the itchy hay flying everywhere! GuineaDad hay boxes for LIFE!
I have 10 Guinea pigs. This is Spike, an older male. He got his Orchard grass hay box on 01/13/2023, and still has a third of the box on 02/10/2023. His next cage neighbor, Polar, got the same box at the same time. He is near the bottom of the box. There is some very fine hay at the bottom, not dusty, but too fine to eat. Two girls, Ma and Peggy, went through the box in in about 2 weeks time. They actually torn into the box and Peggy dived in. Pigs love doing that.
Overall, I like the boxes. No flumes of dust in my face. I don’t have to transfer from container to the cage. The pigs like the hay. I find it cost effective. I work the hay down from top to bottom, twice daily, to keep pigs from crawling into the box. I ordered more of the boxes and all but two of my pigs have a hay box in their cages. The other two are still working through their hay bars.
So far, this is a big improvement over hay racks. I sit the box on a brick to keep it off the floor and only open 2 of the feeding holes for one pig. I open all 3 on the bottom for two pigs. I only have boxes in three of my 7 cages so far. I have 10 Guinea pigs.
I use the handle of a large spoon and my fingers to pull hay down from above, as the pigs eat. It is a bit of work the first few days. But, I know my pigs. If I leave a gap where they put their head, they will also insert their body and pee in the box. On my two cages with a top, I use a bungee cord near the top to hold the box in place, still sitting on a brick. And, a pad in front of the brick to catch loose hay as they chew.
I haven’t noticed any dust and that is my number one reason to switch hay brands. I was concerned that there are no long strands, but so far poops look healthy. The orchard hay is so green and so soft. No sharp pieces and no brown pieces. And, there is so much less waste. I sometimes throw away 1/4-1/3 of a box of hay, because of the dust.
I have an order in for hay bars to try out in my other four cages.
Our guineas love, their crunchy condos! They also love the orchard hay bar.
We frequently find them head first immersed in their hay bar. The crunchy condos give them the opportunity to climb up and grab their treats. Then they get to run through and hide just what they love!
Our pigs both love to eat the Guinea Dad Orchard Hay as well as hide in and chew on the box. It's an all around great product that keeps up from having to fill up the hay feeder constantly since there is such a large amount in each feeder. Thank you, Guinea Dad, for making the feeding process fun and easy!
The Guinea Dad hay boxes are wonderful. The piggies have a constant source of fresh, clean hay. The boxes are stuffed full and last longer than the larger and more expensive boxes I was buying online. My allergies have decreased, since I no longer transfer hay by the handful to the cage. The guinea pigs love the hay and one likes to climb inside the box to use it as a hidey for napping as soon as he's eaten enough hay to open up some space.
Rue and Skunkie love, love the hey box. Skunkie doesn’t sneeze anymore with the Orchard hey. The convenience of just popping a new box every couple weeks is a game changer. Oh, and I keep the empty box in the cage for a few days …. Rue finds it a fun place to relax.
My boys were already hooked on the Timothy hay, but wanted to try them with Orchard hay to make it easier on my allergies. Apollo and Verbolten took a little getting used to the Orchard hay, but they love it and so do my allergies!
This is such a great idea and I definitely like not refilling hay all the time. This is the only hay Dulcinea can eat right now without urinary pain (possibly lower in seed heads/calcium than previous orchard grass we were using). As you can see, she's started napping in front of the hay box (IT'S ALL MINE)! It took a couple of boxes for the piggies to really get the hang of it but now they head right over and start stuffing their faces. The execution needs some work. I think it is less dusty, but a lot of the box is full of small bits that get tracked everywhere. For lil' D we can not be without this!
Orchard Hay is 100% better than Oxbow Timothy Hay - finer texture, pleasant aroma, no dust. Miss Pearl finds it tastier too - fun to watch her pulling the grass from the box openings. Packaging allows less waste & a cleaner habitat. Thank you for putting so much thought into making life better for all the tiny loves in our lives.
Merry Christmas!
I put this hay in my piggies' cages and it immediately made my room smell amazing. The pigs love it. You can literally see the difference in the photo - their old hay is bedding for the litter area now for comparison. It's so much more brown, dusty, and full of sticks than the beautiful orchard hay!
I had trouble with buying hay in bulk because it was always so messy. But I decided to give these a try and my pigs love them so much!
Keeps the cage and out of the cage more clean than before, I am for sure going to keep on buying more!
Dean & Frank love the great quality hey, I love how easy it is! I don’t have to worry about having to refill the hey constantly 🥰. Dean thinks it’s a very cozy loft too!
All of our skinny pigs loved it. Our babies figured out they could fit into the food house, as pictured. Helps a ton since I have hay allergies and this helps with the allergens every day. Only downside is they eat the bottom half but have yet to figure out how to get to the top (in a normal way) but I’m sure in time they will figure it out!
My boys like the orchard hay best. The box keeps everything so much neater than anything else I've tried. It saves on space too I love that it clips on! Very clever!
